What is Math-A-Thon?
Math-A-Thon is a program to aid children in practicing their math skills, but mostly to raise money
to fund the research and treatments of St. Jude Hospital.  Students in Grades K-9 receive sponsor
sheets and a Math-A-Thon Fun Book.  They first complete the sponsor sheet with the names of family
members, friends, and neighbors who will sponsor them for each math problem in their fun book
they answer correctly.  Students then complete the Math-A-Thon Fun Book, collect the donations
from their sponsors, and return them to their Math-A-Thon program coordinator.  (At this point, I
have been nominated by your President to be this coordinator.)

Who does Math-A-Thon help?
Not only does Math-A-Thon help your child improve his/her math skills, but you child and their
sponsors will be helping save the lives of children in America and around the world fight against
diseases like cancer, AIDS, and sickle cell disease, among others.  St. Jude treats about 160 kids a day
through treatments developed at their research labs.  These labs literally do not stop.  They are open
24 hours a day, 365 days a year to develop new treatments that are shared with doctors and hospitals
around the world.

What do I get out of it?
Shame on you for asking.  But hey, it's only human nature, right?  Anyway, there are wonderful
things in store.  All participants will receive prizes based on the number of money raised.  Also,
students get to improve their math skills and help St. Jude fight diseases all around the world.

What has St. Jude done so far?
They have done a lot.  St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was founded in 1962 by the late
entertainer Danny Thomas.  Since that time, they have raised overall survival rate for Children with
cancer in America from 20% to 70%.  This means that instead of 2 out of every 10 children surviving
from cancer, it is now 7 out of every 10 children.  St. Jude needs all the help they can get to save
those other 3 out of 10 children.  St Jude depends on the money they receive from this program and
other donations and contributions to develop their research.  They do not charge for any services not
covered by the child's family's insurance, nor do they charge for any services if the child;s family has
no insurance.

You mentioned prizes.  What can I win?
Everyone who participates will receive a Certificate of Achievement. You can also win a Free Pass to
any Six Flags property, a St. Jude T-shirt, a St. Jude backpack, a digital camera, a plug 'n' play game
system with 50 games or an MP3 player, depending on the amount of money you raise.

Hope we can get everyone interested in this program.  Remember, the more math problems we
complete in this program, the more money we will raise, and the more lives of children we can save.
Let's all do our part to fulfill Tommy's Wish and help out the children of St. Jude.

Lyrics to The Prayer

I pray You’ll be our eyes
And watch us where we go
And help us to be wise
In times when we don’t know
Let this be our prayer
When we lose our way

Lead us to a place
Guide us with Your grace
To a place where we’ll be safe

I pray we’ll find Your light (I pray we’ll find Your
light)
And hold it in our hearts (and hold it in our hearts)
When stars go out each night (when stars go out each night)
Remind us where You are (remind us where You are)
Let this be our prayer (let this be our prayer)
When shadows fill our day (when shadows fill our day)

Oh Lord, lead us to a place, oh my
Guide us with Your grace (guide us with Your grace)
Give us faith so we’ll be safe

A world where pain and sorrow will be ended
And every heart that’s broken will be mended
And we’ll remember we are all God’s children
Reaching out to touch you, reaching to the sky

We ask that life be kind (we ask that life be kind)
And watch us from above (and watch us from above)
We hope each soul will find (we hope each soul will find)
Another soul to love (another soul to love)

Let this be our prayer (let this be our prayer)
Just like every child (just like every child)

Needs to find a place
Guide us with Your grace
Give us faith so we’ll be safe

Needs to find a place
Guide us with Your grace
Give us faith so we’ll be safe
We would like to thank our
